You're either dipping your toes into the TikTok sea for the first time, or wondering why your content isn't getting shown to many other users. TikTok trends consistently take over the For You Page, with endless interpretations of the same dance, song, action, or sound. There is no need to re-invent the wheel on TikTok- the app actively shows you what is trending and it's now your turn to create your own interpretation. Let's jump right into creating popular content that gets your profile more visibility.
How can you find what's trending on TikTok?
TikTok really does most of the work for you on this one. When a dance, challenge, song, sound, or effect is trending, it will appear on your For You Page multiple times. This is where you take note, and then brainstorm how you can put your own creative flare or brand signature on the trend.
Tip: You'll likely take note of several popular trends in just a few minutes on the app. If you tap the bottom where the name of the sound scolls across, it will show you all the creators who have used this sound, and at the top you can add it to your favorites for quick use when you go to make your next TikTok. It's also helpful to keep a note open where you can record trends and keep your ideas fresh.
How can you use the trends you see to create content for your account?
1. Dances
Use popular dances to share information about your mission or business. TikTok creator, Caitlyn O'Neal, does a great job of sharing about her infertility journey with a mix of story sessions, using original audio, and using popular dances and sounds as a backdrop to gain visibility for her content:
Tip: The dances range from simple to more technically difficult, but you don't have to be great at the dance itself to take part. Informally produced content is the signature of TikTok.
2. Sounds
The great thing about trending sounds is that they are often comedic in nature and can be used in a variety of ways with just a little creativity. A great example of this is Jake, also known as @mortgage_yack on TikTok. This creator often uses trending sounds to be relevant and engaging, while creatively relating it back to the mortgage lending and real estate industry.
3. Challenges
Challenges range from the physical all the way to pranks and singing. If you can't tell, TikTok is a great way to show the more informal, relatable side to your audience and engage them on a whole other level. Isabella Kinsington is a performer who regularly uses challenges to grow her following with quality, trending content.
4. Feature/Effects
Using trending effects and features can help you get placed into the FYP. Everything from aging filters and gender-swapping filters, to features that animate photos or place your mouth on a pet.
