2024 Contemporary Trends in Graphic Design for Small Businesses

Graphic design is ever evolving, and staying updated with the latest trends can give small businesses a competitive edge. Whether you’re rebranding, creating a marketing campaign, or enhancing your social media presence, understanding contemporary design styles can help you connect with your audience. Here’s a look at a few graphic design trends you can add to your social media channels.

Vintage Revival and Nostalgia

One of my personal favorite trends of this blog post? Vintage Revival! Yes, even the early 2000s era is considered vintage now….take a minute to lie down. Nostalgia sells, and vintage-inspired design is trending. Fonts, textures, and color schemes reminiscent of the 1970s, ‘80s, and ’90s evoke a sense of familiarity and comfort with your audience.

How to use it:

  • Design retro-themed logos or promotional materials showcasing your business in a different way.

  • Incorporate throwback posts that are fun and engaging.

  • Use vintage-inspired fonts for special campaigns or sales.

  • Be bold and playful in your approach: think of items you were drawn to as a child for inspo.

  • Apply grainy textures or faded filters in your visuals giving a sense of nostalgia.

  • We also recommend short videos. Keep it light and to the point or even funny to make a memorable impression.

Maximalist Aesthetic

Gone are the days of "less is more." In 2024, maximalism will make a strong comeback and we predict this will continue into 2025. Remember when McDonalds used to be fun and bright and now it has simple modern neutral tones? Viewers are wanting to see a fun energetic aesthetic. This trend embraces bold colors, intricate patterns, and layered designs. For small businesses, this means more opportunities to showcase their personality and create memorable branding that is fun.

How to use it:

  • Incorporate vibrant color palettes into social media graphics.

  • Use dynamic patterns in packaging or storefront signage.

  • Create detailed illustrations or hire a local artist that highlights your brand story.

  • Variable fonts and font weights are okay in maximalist aesthetics.

AI-Assisted Design

Artificial Intelligence tools are becoming increasingly accessible, allowing even non-designers to create professional-quality graphics. AI can generate concepts, enhance images, and even personalize content for different audiences.

How to use it:

  • Utilize AI tools to quickly draft designs for social media ads or product mockups.

  • Leverage AI training. On your lunch break, watch a few videos to learn a new skill.

  • We love using ChatGPT to get a jumpstart on projects.

  • Combine AI-generated elements with human creativity for unique results.

Adopting the latest graphic design trends doesn’t mean overhauling your entire brand—it’s about incorporating fresh ideas that resonate with your audience. For small businesses, staying agile and creative is key. By embracing these trends, you can create designs that not only catch the eye but also tell your unique story and be memorable to your audience.

Ready to elevate your brand’s visual identity? Experiment with these trends and see what resonates best with your audience!
